Quantum dots are small, inorganic particles that emit light. Under his $254,000 NIH grant, Professor Johnson uses quantum dots in his experimentation to understand the interaction between RNA and peptides from the HIV virus. Enjoying the balance between teaching and research for over 34 years, he advises junior faculty, “Focus on your research, focus on your teaching, and serve on only one or two committees.”
