Professor Desamero uses vibrational spectroscopy (infrared and Raman) to identify important bonds and detect conformational changes in the dehydropteridine reductase enzyme in this two-year $147,000 NIH MBRS-SCORE research project. While his quest is to understand the enzyme on the molecular level, Professor Desamero is equally satisfied with his role as instructor. “The biggest challenge I face is convincing students that they can study chemistry on the graduate level.”
