General Description
The Center for HIV/AIDS Educational Studies and Training (CHEST) of Hunter College of the City University of New York (CUNY) is hiring for a full-time Clinical Psychologist.
CHEST (www.chestnyc.org) is an internationally recognized multidisciplinary research center which blends academic and community-based work focused on sexual health, HIV/AIDS, LGBT issues, and substance use. Responsibilities: The Clinical Psychologist will work closely with CHEST’s clinical director and serve in both administrative and clinical capacities. Administratively, the Clinical Psychologist will assist with supervision and coordination of CHEST’s full-time clinical staff. The Clinical Psychologist will also assist CHEST’s clinical director, Dr. Tyrel Starks, in creating and implementing policies which ensure the protection of human participants in research. Clinically, the Clinical Psychologist will deliver Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral interventions in the context of randomized controlled trials conducted at CHEST. Intervention responsibilities may include work with individuals as well as couples. The Clinical Psychologist will also provide clinical supervision (both individual and group) to Masters-level clinicians and post-doctoral trainees (3-8 total supervisees across 2-4 research studies). Responsibilities may also include providing training and feedback to clinicians at community-based organizations and clinics (2-6 clinics across 1-2 research studies). The Clinical Psychologist is not required to develop an independent program of research; however, opportunities for involvement in the publication and dissemination of findings from studies conducted at CHEST are available.
Other Duties
Qualification: A doctoral-level degree in clinical or counseling psychology (PhD/PsyD) from an APA accredited program. Preferred candidates will be licensed in NY-state, though candidates who demonstrate the potential for licensure within the first 3 months of employment will be considered. Familiarity with Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is essential. The ability to provide clinical supervision from a cognitive behavioral theoretical orientation is required. Previous work providing counseling or support services to the LGBT population is highly desired as is experience with substance use treatment and experience with issues related to sexuality and sexual health. Candidates interested in either regular part-time or full-time employment will be considered. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.); work independently while managing multiple tasks.
