General Description

The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences (MCBS) at the CUNY SoM invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Research Assistant (Basic Science). We seek a productive cardiovascular scientist who complements departmental strengths in cardiovascular biology and disease, including vascular biology, myocardial pathophysiology, metabolic regulation, and mechanisms of heart failure. We are particularly interested in candidates using molecular and cellular approaches to investigate these research topics to inform the mechanisms of cardiovascular disease and cardiometabolic disorders.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain a robust, externally funded research program in cardiovascular science. Responsibilities also include active participation in medical and graduate student education, as well as engagement in institutional service at the departmental, school, and university levels. A demonstrated ability—or clear potential—to develop interdisciplinary collaborations both within and beyond the department is essential.

Other Duties

  • Serve as Principal Investigator for cardiovascular-related research, leading efforts in laboratory development, experimental design, and project execution.
  • Develop and establish a new research program or further an existing cardiovascular research initiative at CUNY.
  • Obtain and sustain extramural funding at the national level to support research activities.
  • Contribute to the Department’s academic mission.
  • Participate in departmental service responsibilities, including committees and other governance activities.
  • Engage in service at both the institutional (CUNY) and school (CUNY SoM) levels to support shared governance and strategic initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A doctoral degree (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) in Physiology, Molecular or Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Postdoctoral research experience in cardiovascular or metabolic sciences.
  • Evidence of productivity and independence, including first- or senior-author publications in established peer-reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative, hypothesis-driven projects, to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment, and to secure extramural funding.
  • Commitment to mentoring students and fostering a diverse and inclusive research culture.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated ability in calcium imaging and immunofluorescence.
  • Expertise in mitochondrial function, redox biology, and beta-cell physiology.
  • Demonstrated scholarship or professional achievement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with colleagues, students, and institutional partners in support of the university’s mission.
