The School of Professional Studies of the City University of New York (CUNY SPS) has provided online and on campus degree and certificate programs that meet the needs of adults who are looking for a seamless way to finish or transition into a bachelor’s degree, earn a master’s degree or certificate in a specialized field, advance in the workplace, or change careers.

Home to the first fully online degree programs at the City University of New York, CUNY SPS offers fully accredited online degree and certificate programs for students who want the flexibility and convenience of online education.

CUNY SPS is recruiting for the role of Part-Time Child Welfare/Juvenile Justice Trainers to support the ACS Workforce Institute (ACS WI). Formed in 2015, ACS WI is a partnership between NYC Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) and CUNY SPS tasked with providing ongoing professional development for child welfare and juvenile justice professionals. Since its launch in March 2016, ACS WI has delivered 18 custom designed and evidence based learning programs to over 9,500 learners in state of the art classrooms in the 5 boroughs.

Trainers will be responsible for delivering instructor led training (ILT) for ACS WI courses. All programs are co-facilitated at ACS sites in the five boroughs.

Topics include:  building engagement skills using motivational interviewing strategies and coaching processes and techniques, safety and risk and sexual abuse.

Additionally, facilitators may have the opportunity to become involved with course enhancement post launch and potentially serve as subject matter experts on curriculum development teams for future learning programs.

 

We currently have a need for training professionals with experience delivering the following topics:

  • New York State’s safety and risk curriculum
  • Family Team Conferencing (FTC)
  • Implicit bias, diversity and inclusion, race/culture, cultural competency

 

Hours: will vary depending on the instructional schedule; compensation will include hours for in-person instructional delivery as well as preparation time

Salary: hourly rate, dependent on level of experience

Other Duties

Reporting to the Deputy Director, Learning Operations, the Trainers will:

  • Participate in train-the-trainer sessions to fully understand the goals of new learning programs, and the mechanics of effectively delivering simulations and action learning activities
  • Deliver formal classroom training to ACS and provider agency staff
  • Travel to various training sites in all five boroughs;
  • Coordinate the implementation of evaluation tools to gauge effectiveness of the learning programs and knowledge transfer;
  • Participate in professional development sessions to improve platform and classroom management skills while applying the principles of adult learning methodology;
  • Advise Deputy Director on potential enhancements to the learning program curriculum as well as learner materials designed to support enhanced employee performance back on the job; and
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required; graduate level coursework in the fields of Social Work, Psychology or related fields, a Master’s degree in these fields is preferred;
  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in child welfare and juvenile justice; previous Child Protective Service experience is a plus
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience delivering learning programs in traditional in-person Instructor-Led Training (ILT) and/or virtual formats to adult learners;
  • Coaching experience and/or certification is a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience working on a diverse team, and with diverse constituencies.
