General Description

The New York Early Childhood Professional Development Institute, housed at the City University of New York, is a fast-paced, dynamic public/private partnership that exists to drive the excellence of services designed for young children through research, policy, and practice.

The Institute is seeking part-time dynamic early childhood trainers to deliver professional development workshops on gender, sexuality, and LGBTQ inclusive spaces to early childhood providers and families in New York City. This series is designed to spark discussion and provide educators and families with the language, frameworks, and resources they need to make their classrooms and homes supportive spaces for the development and expansive exploration of identity. Through these sessions, educators:

  • Deepen their understanding of gender, sexuality, and identity development as it pertains to young children in early childhood classrooms
  • Develop pedagogical and curricular strategies to proactively engage with and address young children’s questions about gender, bodies, and relationships
  • Feel empowered to work with families and other educators to address concerns and implement practices and policies that support positive gender identity development
  • Engage family-centered curriculum to better include and support LGBTQ families in early childhood settings

Other Duties

  • Extensive knowledge of and experience in early childhood education, adult education and identity development, particularly as it relates to gender and sexuality
  • Experience designing and facilitating trainings for educators
  • Experience working with diverse populations and demonstrated background working with and supporting LGBTQ families and communities.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to motivate people
  • Ability to multi-task with minimal supervision

Qualifications

  • MA in Early Childhood Education, Gender and Sexuality, Women’s Studies, or a relevant field of study
  • Knowledge of gender, sexuality, and LGBTQ communities as demonstrated through educational or professional experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in early childhood education or related work
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality training to adults (NYAEYC Trainer Credential preferred)
  • Strong knowledge base in both child and adult development and learning
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and to develop and sustain successful collaborative partnerships
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Enthusiasm to learn a professional development curriculum and actively engage in preparation for workshops and on-going coaching
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends
  • Ability to travel to other sites within NYC and NYS

About the Research Foundation

The Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) was established as a not-for-profit educational corporation chartered by the State of New York in 1963. RFCUNY supports CUNY faculty and staff in identifying and obtaining external support (pre-award) from government and private sponsors and is responsible for the administration of all such funded programs (post-award).
