General Description
The Baruch STEP Academy is an academic enrichment program focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and providing college preparation. Managed through the CUNY Research Foundation, we serve 250 middle and high school students throughout the city annually. The Spring 2025 Program will operate over 12 Saturday sessions, January 25th through April 26th (excluding February 22nd and April 26th).

Course Title: Abnormal Psychology | Schedule: 10:30am-12pm
Course Description: Students will learn the history, foundational understanding, and social stigmas of mental illness. The course will review the symptoms, causes, and interventions/treatment for anxiety, mood disorders (depression, bipolar), substance abuse, and schizophrenia.
Additional Information: This course is designed for high school students interested in psychology-related careers.
Salary: $1,350 = [$45 an hour x 2.5 hours (1.5 hours of instruction + 1 hour of preparation) x 12 sessions]
Other Duties
- Prepare and teach curriculum for 20-22 students
- Evaluate student and group performance
- Provide staff with measurable results in student learning through assessments
- Monitor and maintain accurate student attendance records
- Reassess curriculum based on students' needs, interests, and understanding of materials
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
- Availability for each program day from 10:30am-12pm
- Degree in psychology or related subject
- Experience in a teaching capacity in subject area
- Experience with designing/implementing a course curriculum
- Have a strong classroom management style
Preferred:
- Strong background in the subject area
- Prior teaching experience with high school or undergraduate students
- Ability to engage students with creative lessons and innovative teaching style
- Possess good interpersonal skills with adolescents and a strong understanding of their maturity levels
- Enthusiasm for the subject with flexibility in adjusting curriculum to reflect students' abilities
