General Description

OVERVIEW

Mass-Spectrometry Core facility at the City University of New York Graduate Center (https://asrc.gc.cuny.edu/) is opening a position for Mass-Spectrometry Technician Specialist in the field of biological mass-spectrometry.

The Core facility, which is one of the facilities within the Structural Biology Initiative at the Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), actively participates in collaborative research and offers various mass-spectrometry based analytical services to laboratories within ASRC and beyond. Current services support projects from across structural biology, chemistry, and bio-nanotechnology areas. Examples include characterization of intact proteins, DNA, small molecule and complex peptide mixtures, MALDI-MS imaging of small molecules and lipids. Additionally, the Core offers fully supported techniques as hydrogen-deuterium exchange mass-spectrometry (HDX-MS), Online Size-Exclusion Native Mass-Spectrometry of protein-protein or protein-DNA complexes to researchers with projects related to higher-order structure of protein complexes.

The Core maintains ultra-high-resolution maXis-II/ETD ESI-q-TOF and Autoflex-Speed MALDI TOF-TOF mass- spectrometers, Dionex U(H)PLC and RS-nano-LC-systems, and Trajan’s LEAP-HDX liquid handling robotics for hydrogen-deuterium exchange mass-spectrometry based experiments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

BS or MS in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or closely related fields. Relevant experience in application of LC/MS and/or any other mass-spectrometry based techniques is a plus.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Assist Facility Users with sample preparation, various LC-MS and HDX-MS data acquisition/analysis.
  • Service sample analysis. Examples of the service sample analysis include (1) hydrogen-deuterium exchange and mass-spectrometry analysis (HDX-MS) of proteins; (2) LC-MS analysis of small molecules or peptide mixture
  • Assist the Core’s supervisor with preparation of research and administrative reports, SOP, and invoicing for provided by the Core services
  • Participate in the Core’s collaborative research efforts; maintain literature awareness of research area
  • Assist in the maintenance of laboratory and instruments as applicable in the best possible order. Management of reagents/supplies/log-books. Adhere to standards for safety and hygiene and ethical conduct as defined by the University and relevant outside parties.
