General Description
The Program for Research Initiatives for Science & Math (PRISM), an award-winning STEM retention and mentoring program at John Jay College (JJC) of the City University of New York is looking for a Senior Grant Program Manager to oversee programmatic activities, budgets, and reporting for multiple federal, state, and private grants. The Senior Manager will work directly with the PI and Dean of Research to assure that all project tasks are on schedule, supervise staff working on grant activities, balance and allocate grant budgets, and prepare annual and final reports to funding agencies. The Senior Manager will also collaborate with the PI and other project staff to design and implement effective program interventions, and craft new funding proposals to grant agencies.
As a senior team member, the Senior Manager will exercise independent judgment in implementing plans to achieve the goals and objectives of the funded projects. The position requires the management and coordination of multiple grant projects including balancing year-to year project budgets, gathering data on outcomes from multiple sources, writing reports, hiring and supervising employees, drafting of contracts, and other responsibilities. These projects broadly support major educational initiatives in the STEM disciplines at the College including: the Program for Research Initiatives in Science and Math – an award-wining program that supports underrepresented students in undergraduate research training; Visionlearning – a nationally recognized online science learning environment that provides freely available teaching material to teachers and students; Research in Action – an Open Online Courses (MOOC) that teaches critical thinking skills; and other focused efforts at the College to improve STEM-learning.
Other Duties
Specific tasks include:
- Work with other Senior Staff to manage multiple complementary strands and activities supported by these grants;
- Manage grant-related staff and contractors, and participate in/manage the hiring process;
- Maintain project budgets and activity records, and assist with the acquisition of major equipment;
- Support the PI and collaborators in identifying, writing, and submitting new grant proposals;
- Collaborate with internal and external project personnel to identify metrics and collect data for reporting and assessment;
- Lead the writing and submission of Annual Performance Reports, Interim Reports, Quarterly and Monthly Reports as required by funding agencies;
- Perform general accounting duties, including reconciliations and payment processing;
- Provide editorial oversight for project-related communication and publications;
- Occasional travel to attend annual grant director meetings;
- Additional tasks, as needed.
Qualifications

- Expert knowledge of major office computer and spreadsheet software related to field of work (Kuali Financial Systems, Microsoft Excel and 360, a plus)
- Working knowledge of city, state and federal regulations (IRS, OMB, Edgar) budgetary structures, procurement procedures, and bidding processes;
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's Degree in a relevant field and three (3) years administrative, progressively responsible experience, of which at least one (1) year entailed working with budgeting, expenditures, human resources, and/or procurement, preferably in a non-profit organization, and at least one (1) year supervising the work of others in a related area, OR
- A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and four (5) years related progressively responsible experience, of which at least one (1) year entailed working with budgeting, expenditures, human resources, and/or procurement, preferably in a non-profit organization, and at least one (1) year supervising the work of others in a related area.
This is a full-time position, with benefits, and salary is commensurate with experience. The project is located in Manhattan in New York City.
