General Description
Kingsborough Community College’s Division of Workforce Development and Continuing Education is seeking a Pharmacy Technician Career Training Instructor to act as a Lecturer and Lab Instructor for its Pharmacy Technician Certificate Program.
The Pharmacy Technician instructor provides academic instruction and student academic support and is responsible for teaching a curriculum to students using theories and fundamentals of pharmacy practice. This position exists to instruct students in procedures and policies needed to be a pharmacy technician. Students will learn pharmaceutical language, calculations, medication administration routes, as well as concepts of pharmacology and medicinal therapy as it relates to anatomy & physiology and pathophysiology.
Instructors will be responsible for teaching students about the appropriate information in our training programs, ensuring that the knowledge and skills taught are relevant and required for entry-level employment in this particular field. Instructors are also expected to employ sound and ethical means to ensure a positive classroom environment that stimulates an engaging learning experience, while ensuring student knowledge retention.
Other Duties
- Maintain responsibility for instruction and classroom management
- Utilize classroom (or online forum), student assessment mechanisms, and classroom management techniques to provide an engaged classroom experience to students.
- Ensure that each student has been presented with the material to successfully meet the learning objectives of each course within a student’s program of study
- Ensure that instructional materials and equipment are ready for student use, sufficient in quantity, prepared in advance by our office staff if necessary.
- Supervise/Oversee the application of knowledge in the on-site hospital and retail setting.
- Adhere to procedures and policies for the smooth day-to-day operation of the program.
- Teach students the federal and state requirements on medications.
- Educate students on how to perform functions related to medication ordering, receiving, storage, preparation, deliver and disposal.
- Lead by example by utilizing appropriate steps in decision making process to include recognition and priority setting related to pharmacy work.
- Attend teacher meetings as required.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Experienced in online instruction via Zoom, Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams or MOODLE.
- Relevant certifications in one or more of the subject matter areas listed above.
- Minimum of four-years of experience in the pharmacy field, preferably hospital/clinical experience.
- Familiar with certification standards set fort by National Healthcareer Assocation (NHA) and Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
