Job Description
General Description
Lehman College is seeking Peer Mentors for a recently awarded 5-year grant: Pathways to Student STEM Success: Using High Impact Practices to Improve STEM Enrollment, Retention, Transfer and Graduation. The Peer Mentor Program provides opportunities for Pathway to STEM (PTS3) students at Lehman College to connect with and learn from upper-level students majoring in STEM.
About the Pathways to Student STEM Success Program
Pathways to Student STEM Success (PTS3) is a coherent and collaborative program that will engage senior and community college students in activities designed to build their social and cultural capital through: intensive advisement; mastery of academic content and skills; and participation in STEM activities that are central to STEM interest, efficacy, and success. PTS3 will also address administrative barriers that plague transfer students through joint planning and collaborative implementation with Bronx Community College (BCC) and Hostos Community College (HCC).
The program ensures students interested in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) have access to these courses. Students who plan to major in a STEM subject are paired with an upper-level Lehman student to offer peer advisement and facilitate the transition to college for new students.
Throughout the academic year, peer mentors and their mentees participate in networking and social activities. In addition, peer mentors address mentees’ questions and offer information on academic resources. The Peer Mentor Program is designed to be fun and engaging for both parties

- Facilitate study groups for mentees
- Document observations and submit monthly reports to the Peer Mentor Program coordinator
- Peer Mentors must participate in mandatory training sessions
Qualifications
- Strong students with a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Have experience working with diverse populations
