General Description
The Activity Specialist is responsible for developing and leading specialized enrichment activities for middle school students in the Project BOOST afterschool program. The specialist will bring expertise in specific areas such as STEM, arts, dance, sports, or other content areas to engage students in hands-on, interactive learning. The role requires creativity, subject matter expertise, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive, engaging environment. This is a part-time position, with the possibility of some weekend work when needed.
Schedule/hours: Monday-Friday, 2:00 pm- 5:45 pm
Location: Bronx School (E 163rd St, Bronx, NY)
Other Duties
- Specialized Program Delivery: Create and deliver activities in your area of expertise (STEM, arts, sports, etc.) that are aligned with program goals and designed to engagemiddle school students.
- Lesson Planning: Develop lesson plans that are age-appropriate, hands-on, and interactive, aimed at enhancing students’ academic and personal growth.
- Student Engagement: Encourage participation and creativity, ensuring that activities areaccessible to all students and meet diverse needs.
- Classroom Management: Provide strong management during activities, ensuring student behavior is aligned with program expectations and safety protocols.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Group Leaders and Counselors to integrate activities into the larger program, supporting student development.
- Supervision: Ensure students are supervised at all times, especially during activities that require special equipment or space.
Qualifications
- High School diploma required, college enrollment or degree in relevant field preferred.
- At least one year of experience leading activities or working in a specialized field (e.g., STEM, arts, and sports).
- Expertise in creating lesson plans and facilitating hands-on, experiential learning activities.
- Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work with diverse groups of students and adapt activities to meet their needs.
- Passion for working with youth in culturally diverse environments.
- Fluency in other languages is a plus.
