General Description
Medgar Evers College is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Summer Youth Employment Director to oversee the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) and related youth workforce initiatives. This is a full-time, year-round position that involves coordinating activities from January through September, with additional program responsibilities during the remaining months of the year.
The SYEP at Medgar Evers College is a vibrant and multifaceted program designed to provide young adults with opportunities to develop new skills, explore career options, and earn income during the summer. This program extends into the school year with funding for the Work, Learn & Grow Program, offering continued support and development for participating youth.
Reporting to the Dean of the School of Professional and Community Development (SPCD), the successful candidate will lead a team of dedicated staff members, guiding them in introducing youth aged 14-24 to various career pathways and employment opportunities while establishing and enhancing workforce development programs tailored to the needs of the youth community.
Other Duties
- Collaborate closely with the Dean of SPCD to strategically lead and execute youth workforce development initiatives at Medgar Evers College.
- Uphold a standard of excellence across all programs, ensuring the highest quality of implementation and monitoring of program milestones and outcomes.
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate team members to ensure the effective delivery of programs and services.
- Oversee the enrollment process, ensuring all documentation complies with funders' regulations and maintaining accurate records of participant information.
- Lead the collection and analysis of program evaluation data, providing insights and recommendations for program improvement as necessary.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with schools, employer partners, community-based organizations, and internal departments to expand and manage partnerships.
- Plan and execute program enrollment and orientation sessions for participants, ensuring clarity and accessibility of program information.
- Manage program documentation and data entry in relevant databases, providing regular updates and reports to leadership.
- Monitor program performance and progress, making adjustments and improvements as needed to meet established goals and targets.
- Stay informed about trends, best practices, and government initiatives related to youth workforce development, career readiness, and college attainment.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to strategize and develop grant proposals to secure funding for youth workforce initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required with related experience.
- Proven experience working with vulnerable youth populations and engaging effectively with high-needs communities.
- Minimum of five to seven years of relevant supervisory experience.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and motivate teams.
- Exceptional organizational, management, writing, and verbal communication skills.
- Previous experience leading and overseeing youth workforce development programs, including program development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Self-directed and results-oriented with the ability to prioritize and execute tasks efficiently.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines effectively.
