General Description

A position is available for a part-time Senior Research Assistant at the UrbanHealth Lab of the Collaborative Research Group on Health Policy & Promotion (CRG-HPP) at York College. CRG-HPP’s mission is to:  1) Design, conduct and promote collaborative, informative and rigorous research focusing on the critical public health issues facing individuals, families, and communities in the greater New York metropolitan area; 2) Disseminate  research findings to scientific peers, prioritized communities and other stakeholders; and 3) Support community-based organizations' efforts to plan, implement and evaluate their programs and services.  The successful applicant will assist with a study exploring human behavioral responses to detecting and reporting suspected natural gas leaks. The successful applicant must have excellent organizational skills and be able to keep accurate record and notes.

Other Duties

There are 4 principal duties:

  1. Assist in the active and passive recruitment of study participants.
  2. Assist in collection, cleaning, and coding of quantitative/qualitative data.
  3. Assist in the analysis of quantitative/qualitative data.
  4. Supervise, train, and mentor a junior research assistant in the tasks identified above.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Key skills:

  • Familiarity and experience working human research participants
  • Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative research methods (specifically PhotoVoice and focus group methodology)
  • Ability to work with a team of scientists and students
  • Ability to keep well-organized records
  • Knowledge of basic computing, including the ability to work with Microsoft Excel.
  • Willing to be trained to perform study recruitment tasks in a safe and timely fashion (this may involve travel within the five NYC boroughs)
  • Experience managing junior research assistants/undergraduate students

 

Education: BS/BA; in Public Health, Community Health, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field is preferred

 

Training and experience:

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word is essential
  • Experience with general computer use and networking is helpful
  • Experience with social media sites and applications (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) is helpful
