General Description

The Liberty Partnerships Program is a New York State Grant Funded initiative and is comprised of approximately 54 programs across the State that link colleges/universities with middle/high schools in order to provide comprehensive stay in school programming to at-risk youth. 

The Hunter College Liberty Partnerships Program seeks a part-time in-person tutor to join the program to provide tutoring in core subjects (English, math, and science) to high school students at one New York City-based high school, Vanguard High School, located at 367 E 67th Street, a few avenues away from the main 68th Street Hunter College campus. This is an ideal position for college students who are interested in working anywhere between 5-10 hours a week between 11 AM to 3 PM, Monday-Friday

Other Duties

  • Assessing students by monitoring performance, keeping track of goals, formulating differentiated curriculum 
  • Collaborating with faculty and staff and “pushing in” to classes when necessary
  • Helping students to become independent and critical thinkers by coaching and guiding 
  • Actively engaging with students and helping to promote LPP within the school 
  • Setting an example as a role model through appropriate dress, manner, and speech
  • Maintain tutor logs on a monthly basis for records and timesheets
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Enrolled undergraduate student
  • Punctual for appointments with students 
  • Ability to submit tutor logs and timesheets in a timely fashion
  • Willingness to engage with adolescents of diverse backgrounds
  • Self-starter who shows initiative with tasks 
  • Familiarity with NYC public school system is a plus 
  • Team player who is willing to work alongside social workers and social work interns 
  • Ability to work in-person at 367 E 67th Street at the Liberty Partnership program office
  • Interest in working with adolescent NYC public school students
